Robert Kennedy (brother of JFK who would also be assassinated about 68 days later) was in Indianapolis when MLK Jr. was killed. RFK then wrote a speech on a notecard and stood on the back of a pickup truck and gave a speech to the black community. It's a very good speech I recommend that you watch it. So the African-American community was angered by the assassination and rioted, except in Indy, where RFK gave his speech.
