Monosaccharide

Explanation:

  • These are simple sugars which can't be hydrolyzed. Glucose, fructose and galactose are common monosaccharides.
  • Monosaccharides have an empirical formula of #(CH_2O)_n#, where n = #3# or some larger number.
  • When two monosaccharides combine with each other by glycosidic bond releasing water molecule, they form a diasaccharide. For examaple: Sucrose is a diassacharide of #alpha#-D-Glucose and fructose.
  • And when a lot of monosaccharides combine with each other, they form polysaccharides(carbohydrates of high molecular mass) i.e starch,Cellulose, glycogen etc...
