The easiest way is to look at a periodic table.

Explanation:

First of all, look for the desired element on the periodic table. You should notice that above and below are two numbers, the top being referred to as the relative atomic mass and the bottom being referred to as the atomic number.
The number we are interested in is the bottom one, this will tell you the amount of protons in the atom. Now, using common sense we know that an atom has net charge of 0, telling us that the proton number and the electron are equal.

Therefore... in simple terms, in an atom:
the atomic number = the proton number = the electron number.
