What are interstitial compounds?

Interstitial compounds are formed when small atoms like Hydrogen, Carbon or Nitrogen get trapped in the crystal lattice of metals. these are usually not stoichiometric and are neither ionic or covalent.
Example:- TiC (titanium carbide)
