Explanation:

The reason all started with the Democratic-Republican Party. This party was fractured in the 1820's. 2 political factions developed. Those that supported Andrew Jackson, and those that supported John Quincy Adams. The Jackson supporters formed the Democratic Party, while Quincy Adams supporters formed the National Republican Party, (which would later become the Whig Party).
