Objects A and B are at the origin. If object A moves to (6 ,7 ) and object B moves to (-1 ,3 ) over 4 s, what is the relative velocity of object B from the perspective of object A?

First, use the Pythagorean Theorem, then use equation d=vt

Explanation:

Object A has moved c=sqrt(6^2+7^2=9.22m

Object B has moved c=sqrt((-1)^2+3^2=3.16m

The velocity of Object A is then {9.22m}/{4s}=2.31m/s

The velocity of Object B is then {3.16m}/{4s}=.79m/s

Since these objects are moving in opposite directions, these velocities will add, so they will appear to be moving at 3.10 m/s
away from each other.
