x must be different from 1 and -3.

Explanation:

If I got it right, the denominator is x^2+2x-3
In that case:

x^2+2x-3=0

D=b^2-4ac =>b=2;a=1;c=-3

D=2^2-4*1*(-3)

D=4+12=16 ;16>0

This means that
x_1=(-b- sqrtD)/(2*a)

=(-2-4)/(2*1)

=-6/2

=-3

x_2=(-b+ sqrtD)/(2*a)

=(-2+4)/(2*1)

=2/2

=1

Since the solutions to the denominator are 1 and -3, these values cannot be plugged into the original problem.
