If I got it right, the denominator is #x^2+2x-3#
In that case:

#x^2+2x-3=0#

#D=b^2-4ac =>b=2;a=1;c=-3#

#D=2^2-4*1*(-3)#

#D=4+12=16 ;16>0#

This means that
#x_1=(-b- sqrtD)/(2*a)#

#=(-2-4)/(2*1)#

#=-6/2#

#=-3#

#x_2=(-b+ sqrtD)/(2*a)#

#=(-2+4)/(2*1)#

#=2/2#
