Due to swelling and shrinking the light out put varies.
Explanation:
Such stars are called intrinsic variables/..They can be used as standard candle to find the distance o stars..THere is a relation between the period and luminosity..By using this property of variable stars distance to stars can be estimated even in other galaxies.
