=#2x^2-x-3=0#

By sum and product

=#2x^2-3x+2x-3=0#

=#x(2x-3)+1(2x-3)=0#

=#(x+1)(2x-3)=0#

Now either #x=-1# or #x=3/2#

The #x=-1# doesn't satisfy the equation whereas #x=3/2# does.

=#2(3/2)^2-(3/2)#

=#(9-3)/2#

=#3=3# Hence proved
