What is the difference between a metaphor, personification and a simile?

Explanation:
A metaphor- Saying something IS something else, for example:
He drowned in a sea of grief. (there is no such thing as a ‘sea of grief’, there is just grief)
Personification- Giving an inanimate object human-like qualities, for example:
The finger of death. (Death doesn’t actually have a finger)
Simile- Saying something is AS of LIKE something else, for example:
He ran like a cheetah chasing prey.
OR
He ran as fast as a cheetah chasing prey.
