Americans remembered the abuse of England when America was a colony and wanted no part of being an Imperialistic power.
Cuba , Philippians, and Porto Rico were not made a colonies after the Spanish American War, Panama was conquered by the United States, in order to build the critical Panama Canal but then was allowed to become an independent nation. America never did become an Imperialistic power.
