#v = 3/7#

Explanation:

#7v - (6 - 2v) = 12#

So normally, you work on the equation in the parenthesis first, which you have to do, but as they are different, you can't. when I was in Algebra, I was taught, "To compare or combine, you must be the same kind. " so you can't add or multiply #x# with #y#. you will see though, that you have #7v# minus an equation in parenthesis. That means, you have to individually multiply them, by #7v# and #-1#. Worked out, you get:

#-42v + 14v = 12#. Then, just add them, for #-28v#. remember, when subtracting, if the bigger number is negative, the whole answer will be negative. #-28v = 12# It's really hard to understand what #-v = 1# stands for, plus is would be wrong. So, multiply each side of the equation by #-1# for #28v = 12#. Divide each side by four, for #7v = 3#, and further divide by seven, for #v = 3/7#.
