Pulse rate is the count of the beats of the heart, typically in beats per minute.

Explanation:

The pulse rate is the count of the beats of the heart.

Pulse rate can be affected by many things.

  • Demands on the heart
  • Excercise
  • Blood Pressure
  • Relaxation
  • Thickness of the blood (viscosity)
  • Medication
  • Caffiene
  • Temperature
  • Body Position
  • Stress
  • Nervousness
  • Obesity

The pulse is controlled by the sino-atrial node (SAN), which begins the cardiac cycle. The SAN sends an electrical signal across the heart to the atrioventricular node (AVN), where, after a short delay, the signal moves down through the septum and upwards and outwards around the ventricles. This causes the contractions and relaxations of the atria and ventricles known as the cardiac cycle or pulse.
