Explanation:

This problem can be solved using the slope formula, #m = (y_1-y_2)/(x_1-x_2)#

Use the two points given and plug them into the equation. I am using (1,-1) as Point 1 and (-2,-6) as Point 2.
#m = (-1--6)/(1--2)#

The double negatives each cancel out to be a positive (addition).
#m = (-1+6)/(1+2)#

From here, it is simply addition to completely simplify the expression into a slope.

#m = 5/3#
