"At constant Temperature, Volume of a fixed mass of a gas is inversely proportional to the pressure applied to it." _Statement.

Explanation:

HISTORY:

In 1662, Robert Boyle gave the relationship b/w pressure and volume of fixed mass of a gas at constant temperature.

MATHEMATICALLY:

Vprop1/P (at constt. temperature)

Changing prop into "=" sign

V=Kxx1/P (where k is the proportionality constant)
V=K/P
By cross multiplication
PV=K

In other words;

"The product of Pressure and Volume for a fixed mass of a gas remains constant at constant temperature."

Now, Let a gas of initial volume V_1 be under a Pressure P_1 . If the pressure is increased to P_2 the Volume decreases to V_2.

This concludes V_prop1/P
