Urea is produced in the liver and is a metabolite of amino acids.

Explanation:

Amino acids are metabolised and converted in the liver to ammonia, carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Ammonia is highly toxic to the body and cannot be allowed to accumulate. With the help of specific catalysts in the liver cells, carbon dioxide reacts chemically with the ammonia molecule to produce a less toxic nitrogenous compound called urea and water. This process is known as the urea/ornithine cycle.

Urea is the waste product of many living organisms and is the major component of human urine.
