The main use of #"DNA"# fingerprinting I would say is for crime scenes. In case a crime was committed and there was more than one suspect involved, the police can use #"DNA"# fingerprinting to find out which suspect's #"DNA"# matches the fingerprints involved in the crime.

Another use might be to protect somebody, like a mother protecting a child, in case of kidnappings or such...
