James Chadwick identified the neutron, as a fundamental, neutral, nuclear particle.

Explanation:

James Chadwick was Ernest Rutherford's protege, and was a brilliant experimentalist (as were most physicists those days). He provided evidence for the NEUTRON, a neutral nuclear particle.

The discovery and verification of the NEUTRON, as an uncharged particle, represented a much greater experimental #"tour de force"# than the discovery of the electron or the proton. For details see this site.
