An "invasive species" is one with two key characteristics.
1. It is not a "native" species for the area.
2. It displaces "native" species in a new area.

Explanation:

This is one we don't always hear of because it is a native Central-North American plant invading Asia (as well as a few Western Hemisphere areas). North Americans, of course, are more concerned about species invading their local regions!
