What are some reasons for wanting to be able to clone from DNA?

Explanation:

I can think of 3 applications that might be considered important:

[1] If we can develop cloning technology to the point where we can clone individual organs, we could clone replacements for damaged organs for individuals.

[2] We might be able (if we could find viable DNA) be able to revive extinct species. This could be important in the situation where a strain has completely replace other variants and then that strain becomes unable to resist some new (possibly biological) threat.

[3] If we are ever able to escape this planet, transporting small masses of DNA would be more practical than attempting to transport thousands of different plant and animal species.

None of the above it meant to suggest that cloning is not without significant dangers.
