The US was allied with South Korea at the time, and the USSR was allied with North Korea.
Explanation:
The US supplied South Korea with supplies, food, weapons, and covered expenses. The US did this because they needed stronger allied communications, as well as also wanting to indirectly attack/damage the USSR in anyway they could. The US wanted to damage the USSR, because at the time, both the US and the USSR were in the middle of the Cold War.
