With India's Independence, states where a Muslim majorities existed became a separate country. The country of Pakistan came into being. Eventually it became the countries of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

India's Independence from Britain came in 1947. Muslim leaders had successful lobbied for a separate country from the Hindu majority. The country of Pakistan was created split on either side of India. Hindus from Muslim areas and Muslim's from Hindu areas began to migrate. It was the largest mass migration in history. There was incredible violence and very large numbers people were killed.
