Given # Y=32% and X= (100-32)%=68%#

Dividing the each percentage composition by respective atomic mass and taking their ratio ,we get the ratio of no. of atoms of X and Y as

#X:Y=68/50:32/16=1.36:2#

#=1.36/1.36:2/1.36~~1:1.5=2:3#

Hence the formula #X_2Y_3#

NB: I think, the atomic mass of X should be 51.This would give the same result with easier calculation. Actually the atomic mass of Vanadium is #~~51#.This has +3 state.
