# What is the electronic charge of copper?

Copper can be oxidized to form $C {u}^{2 +}$, $\text{cupric}$, and $C {u}^{+}$, $\text{cuprous}$ ions. In water, the aquated cupric ion, here ${\left[C u {\left(O {H}_{2}\right)}_{6}\right]}^{2 +}$, gives rise to a lovely blue colour.
