# Solve the equations x=y+2 and 3x-4y=-5?

Dec 10, 2016

$x = 13$ and $y = 11$

#### Explanation:

Here the easiest way to solve is by using substitution method as in second equation $x = y + 2$, $x$ is clearly expressed in terms of $y$.

Substituting value of $x = y + 2$ in the equation $3 x - 4 y = - 5$, we get

$3 \left(y + 2\right) - 4 y = - 5$

or $3 y + 6 - 4 y = - 5$

or $- y = - 5 - 6 = - 11$

i.e. $y = 11$

and hence $x = 12 + 2 = 13$

Solution is $x = 13$ and $y = 11$
