Saturated hydrocarbons have general formula #C_nH_(2n+2)#. Each degree of unsaturation, i.e. each olefinic bond, or ring junction, reduces the hydrogen count BY TWO; i.e. olefins and cylcoalkanes have general formula #C_nH_(2n)#.
