# What is the difference between "oxalic acid", and "barbituric acid"?

Jun 26, 2017

$\text{Oxalic acid:}$ $H {O}_{2} C - C {O}_{2} H$ is a conventional diacid
On the other hand $\text{barbituric acid.....}$ is a carbon diacid
The acidic hydrogens are the METHYLENE protons on the ring, whose conjugate base is stabilized somewhat by the $\beta - \text{diketone}$.
