Galveston, Texas, was the city struck by a violent hurricane in 1900. This lead to major reforms in the city's structure.


After the hurricane, Galveston asked the state to construct a breakwater (a barrier built out into a body of water to protect a coast or harbor from the force of waves).

Imagine, 6000 to 12000 died in one day because of the hurricane.
