How do we visualize organic molecules?

How about you make a model first?

Explanation:

There may be some people, perhaps professors of organic and inorganic chemistry (right Ernest?), who can vizualize the stereochemistry of complex molecules. I am not one of them, and were I to attempt a problem like this, I would get a molecular model set, and build an accurate model.

And even then, I might get the wrong structure and the wrong stereochemistry. Once you have the 3D structure it is fairly easy to transfer the structure to the printed page.

Anyhoo, make a model. Molecular model sets are always allowed in organic examinations, and in my experience they tend to be under-utilized.
