Lewis structure is a way of representing valence electrons of an element with using dots and crosses.

It is used for purposes like:

  • Representing valence electrons.
  • Finding valency of an element ( if no. of valence electron is less than or equal to 4 then valency=no. of valence electrons or if greater than 4 then valency = 8- no. of valence electrons)
  • To show bounding between elements of a compound.
