Neutrophils because they are the first line of immunological defence.


Among all the types of white blood cells or leucocytes, neutrophils are the most numerous, accounting for 60-70% of all the WBCs.

The reason for this is that neutrophils constitute the first line of defence against bacterial or fungal infection. They respond first to microbial infection and their presence, activity, and death in large numbers forms what we call pus.

Since they cannot renew their lysosomes (organelles that digest phagocytosed bacteria), they die after ingesting a few pathogens.
