Cross pollinations is when the pollen of true breeding plants is transferred to a different population of true breeding plants.

Explanation:

Mendel used cross pollination in his experiments with pea plants to discover the laws of genetics.

Mendel cross pollinated a true breeding round seed pea plant with a true breeding wrinkled seed pea plant.

In the first generation all of the pea plants produced round seeds.
This showed that round seed genes were dominate.

In the second generation roughly 25% or # 1/4# of the pea plants had wrinkled seeds while 75% had round seeds. This showed that the wrinkled seed gene was recessive. No genetic information had been lost or added. One gene had simply overshadowed the effect of the other gene.

Cross pollination the transfer of genetic material from one type of plant to another type of plant was instrumental in the discovery of the laws of genetics.
