Question #437c3

May 26, 2017

the part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formula and equations.

Explanation:

Algebra is most commonly used with missing number and variables. It uses equations that need to be solved in order to find a missing length, value, weight, etc.

Example:

If $10 = 2 x - 2$, what is the value for $x$?

To solve this you must first add the $2$ to both sides.

$10 \textcolor{red}{+ 2} = 2 x - 2 \textcolor{red}{+ 2}$

$12 = 2 x$

The you divide the both sides by $2$

$\frac{12}{\textcolor{red}{2}} = \frac{2 x}{\textcolor{red}{2}}$

So $x = 6$

Hope this helps a bit!
