Several factors

Explanation:

Economic factors: the country was in a terrible situation, national debt was extremely high due to the fact that the Seven Years' War had been both costly and lost and the support of the American Revolution had also been a financial burdern. The country was gradually threatened by famine.

Social factors: the Bourgeoisie was rising in power and contested the absolute monarchy which it thought was an obstacle to its economic interests because of the numerous regulations on trade such as corporations( the term had a different meaning than today and referred to corps of craftmen for instance carpenters, they would impose rules on quality that compelled producer to abide by certain criteria to get the given label, carpenters for instance), the Revolution put a definitive end to that system (Loi Le Chapelier 1791).

Political factors; the influence of the Enlighment was enormous. People such as Voltaire, Rousseau, Diderot and Montesquieu criticized the absolute monarchy and helped its being discredited(They were dead by the time of the Revolution). John Locke was one of their main influence. These ideas were popular and their spreading would eventually lead to the downfall of the Monarchy. They rejected notably the idea that power was inherited from God.
