Microbiology is the study of all living organisms that are too small to be visible to the naked eye.

Explanation:

It includes the study of bacteria, archaea, viruses, fungi, prions, protozoa, and algae, collectively known as microbes.

Microorganisms and their activities are vitally important to virtually all processes on Earth as they influence all living things and contribute to all manner of chemical and physical processes. They play key roles in nutrient cycling, biodegradation, climate change, food spoilage, the cause and control of diseases, and biotechnology. They are also useful in making life saving drugs, manufacture of biofuels, cleaning up pollution and processing food and drink.

Microbiology also studies the interaction of microbes with humans, animals, plants and the environment. Virology, mycology, parasitology, and bacteriology are the various branches of microbiology.
