A source of energy and construction materials.

Explanation:

The earliest industrialization depended on water power. Industrialization occurred along fast moving bodies of water where water wheels could be built. Dam were built to hold water that could be channeled into mill races to power industry.

Later coal and oil became the sources of power. Places like Pittsburgh became centers of industry. Abundant supplies of local coal, and oil fueled industry.

With the advent of electricity dams could be built on waterways to produce electricity. Coal burning electrical plants could be built near coal deposits to produce electricity. The power from the electrical plants could be transported by wires to power industry anywhere.

Early industry depended on wood for building materials. The shipbuilding industry in England ran out of oak trees suitable for the construction of ships, carts and other products.

With the use of coke from coal steel could be made from commercially from iron ore. Steel became the choice of construction material. Machinery made of steel and iron could be used to make other products. Industrialization soared.

Even today steel is the primary material used in industry. Aluminum rival steel in many applications, and silicon chips are a vital construction material in the computer industry.

Industrialization requires an abundant source of energy and in expensive construction materials to be profitable. The actual resources used to supply the energy and construction material have changed over time and will change again.
