Explanation:

Methoxide, bromide, and amino are all electron-precise groups.

On the other hand, the nitro group features a quaternized nitrogen, i.e. a nitrogen with a formal positive charge.

#O=stackrel(+)N(-O^(-))#, given this Lewis structure, the central nitrogen only has 4 valence electrons, rather than the 5 required for neutrality (clearly, there are two inner core #1s# electrons, and #2+5# electrons matches the atomic charge, #Z=7#).

Anyway, I would practise drawing the delocalization of charge using the nitro group.....such examples are always found in your organic text.
