Biology is the specific to life. But, all life is comprised of molecules and governed by thermodynamics.

Explanation:

Chemistry is the study of atomic and molecular structures and interactions. A subset (biochemistry) deals with those structures and reactions important to life processes.

Biologists need to understand a fair amount of chemistry in order to make sense of the processes that they study. How do living systems operate, obtain energy, and propagate? How do diseases affect the ability of organisms to function?

Without an understanding of the chemical basis for life processes, biologists might not be much more than early farmers.
