The Arabs had been fighting each other for centuries. Islam united these warring tribes into a single force with extremely high moral.
The Islamic armies swept out of the Arabian peninsula as an unstoppable force.

The Byzantine and Persian Empires had weakened themselves with years of war between them. The Islamic armies found little opposition from the two Empires. Persia fell and Babylon became one of the capitals of the Islamic Empire. The Eastern Roman Empire was greatly reduced to just an area around Constantiople in Turkey.

The Islamic Armies swept across North Africa and conquered Spain. The small fragmented Christian kingdoms easily fell to the advancing Islamic forces.

At Poitier in France the Islamic armies experience their first defeat in the 100 years. Before this defeat the Islamic armies felt that they were invincible as God was fighting on their side.

The high moral due to the religious fever and powerful military of the hardened Arab warriors allowed rapid military success that spread Islam across the map of the Middle East, North Africa, and Spain.
