Important issues

Explanation:

Members of congress sometime go against their party, sometimes even leaving it (John McCain almost left the GOP in the early 2000's). One good recent example is Healthcare. A number of moderate GOP legislatures went against repealing the ACA (or Obamacare, whatever you want to call it.). Mainly because the GOP version took away a lot of benefits that would hurt a lot of people that depend on healthcare (In the Senate, 3 GOP moderates would sink future attempts). Military issues can also make people go against their party. The Iraq war for example. And just generally bad legislation that a majority of the American population hates, can easily make a politician switch their vote. It is perfectly okay for someone to go against their party. If they do this often they are called a "political maverick."
