The life of serfs was very limited, restrictive and oppressive.

Explanation:

The serf was limiteds in options. A person born a serf was destined to die a serf. There was limited or no hope for a different future for the serf or the children of the serf. The serf was limited in sources of information. The serf could not read or have any access to education. The sermons of the priest was the only knowledge available to the serf. The sermons told the serf to be content with the state the serf found him/her self in.

The life of the serf was restricted. By law the serf was tied to the land. When a noble acquired a tract of land the serfs living on the land also became the nobles property. The serf was not allowed to leave the land. The live of a serf was not much different from the life of a slave.

The serf was also oppressed by the nobles. The serf was required to provide free labor to the nobles, and to the church. The serf was taxed. A large amount of the food the serf was able to raise was taken by the nobles and the church. Cutting trees or hunting game was punished severely. An extreme example ( rarely exercised) was the right of first night. If a noble wanted the noble could take a serf's bride on the wedding night. serfs tried not to be too attractive.
