As a person who considered themselves to be a Christian for many years, i saw no categorical contradiction between the bible and modern cosmology.
Explanation:
A sociologist friend once told me ‘we all tell ourselves stories, just we only believe those told to us by members of our own group’
The evidence for the Big Bang is pretty impressive, taken from a range of sources, cross-checked and generally accepted, so I would beg to differ strongly from the previous answer on both religious and scientific grounds.
