The first world war began in August 1914. It was directly triggered by the assassination of the Austrian archduke, Franz Ferdinand and his wife, on 28th June 1914 by Bosnian revolutionary, Gavrilo Princip.

Imperialism was another cause. All the super power countries like England, French, German, they wanted to have more lands as possible. So, in order to get these lands, you must fight for them.

Alliances was another cause. Alliance is when a country have relationships with another country to help each other. French and England worked together to push back the Germans.

Another cause I can tell you is militarism. All of them wanted to show who can handle the war. The Germany was a very powerful country. They took all Europe for them. That's why we say that if America didn't participate in these wars, most of the countries in Europe would speak the German's language.

I hope this helps!
