Particularly after the Magna Carta, England was able to institute great societal change without as much violence and chaos as other parts of Europe. Its isolation helped.

Explanation:

The Magna Carta (1215) outlined legal rights of the Barons under the King. It placed limits on taxation and prevented illegal imprisonment among other rights. It applied only to the Barons but it principals helped create the constitutional nature of English Monarchy.

As time passed, the powers of the King were increasingly limited and the powers of Parliament were increased. One of the consequences was that English society was able to adapt to change somewhat better than its counterparts in Europe.
