The picture is showing pathway of a polychromatic light here it is white light,through a prism.
Polychromatic light breaks into its components after passing through the prism.
And the order of separation is shown as well.
At the bottom lies the violet colour,as it bends the most after refraction,having the highest frequency of all seven components of white light.
And the red light bends the least,which has the longest wavelength of all the components of white light.
The rest lies in between the two,depending on their wavelength.
This phenomenon is known as DISPERSION OF LIGHT
