Has the book been bought by them?

Where will he be sent by you?

Has the work been finished by her?

Why was she punished by the teacher?

In all of these sentences written in the active voice, there is a subject and object.

In the passive voice, the object becomes the subject. It is the thing being done.

The subject becomes the agent. It is the thing that the verb is done by.

Take 'Has the book been bought by them?':

'The book' has done the verb; it has been bought.

The verb has changed from 'bought' to 'been bought', in the passive voice.

'They' has changed to 'by them'.
