Maybe for some reason, that organism is not common on Earth, so it does not really have a "common name". Using scientific names also ensures the specific organism in a family, not just the common one. For example, you might want to find a very exotic organism that belongs to a certain type of species, but it only has a scientific name, as it is not commonly found.

Scientific names can also reveal the organism's species and genus, which the common name cannot.
