The ionic bond is that made within ions, i.e. a positive ion (cation) and a negative one (anion).

When an atom loses one (or more) electron, it becomes a cation, #A^{+}#. Another atom, can get an electron and becomes an anion, #B^{-}#.

Then, cause diferent sign charges have an atraction force between them, these ions remain bounded by an ionic bond between them.
