# An ionic bond occurs between what particles? t

Dec 1, 2016

The ionic bond is that made within ions, i.e. a positive ion (cation) and a negative one (anion).

#### Explanation:

When an atom loses one (or more) electron, it becomes a cation, ${A}^{+}$. Another atom, can get an electron and becomes an anion, ${B}^{-}$.

Then, cause diferent sign charges have an atraction force between them, these ions remain bounded by an ionic bond between them.

$A \rightarrow {A}^{+} + {e}^{-}$
$B + {e}^{-} \rightarrow {B}^{-}$

${A}^{+} + {B}^{-} \rightarrow A B$ (ionic bond).
