Apologizes. For elimination of linear equation what is X+Y=10 over -X+Y=4? What I got was (7,3), but the book says (3,7) for some odd reason.

The book is correct ( x, y) = ( 3,7)
The x value is always written first the y value second.

Explanation:

# x + y = 10# Using elimination by adding the equations
#+ -x + y = 4#
#= 0x + 2y = 14 #

Now solve the resulting equation for y

# 2y = 14# divide both sides by 2

# (2y)/2 = 14/2# which gives

# y =n7#

put this value in for y in the first equation and solve for x

# x + 7 = 10# subtract 7 from both sides

# x + 7 -7 = 10 -7 # Which gives

# x = 3 #

( x, y ) = ( 3, 7 )

The x value is written first and the y value second.
