# Are Applied Force and Acceleration the same?

## I'm correcting the work assigned to me in Physics30S and cannot find notes where they say that Applied Force and Acceleration are different variables.

No, these are not the same.

#### Explanation:

We know that
$F = m . a$

$\text{Units of Force" ="Newton}$
$\text{Units of mass" ="kilogram}$
${\text{Units of Acceleration"="meter.second}}^{-} 2$
$\therefore {\text{Newton"="kilogram"xx "meter. second}}^{-} 2$
$\implies {\text{Newton"!="meter. second}}^{-} 2$

Alternatively one can do dimensional analysis and show the same.
